In 1914 Michel Louis and his brother Salim started a general wholesale business in Bloemfontein, which soon grew into one of the largest wholesale merchants in the Free State. In 1959, Colia Louis bought his first income-producing building in Bloemfontein and launched the second Louis generation into the property investment and administration business. As Colia's five sons graduated, they all joined their father in the expanding enterprise.
In 1994, the Louis family, by then styled the ‘Louis Group’, relocated its headquarters to Cape Town and continued to apply the principles of Christian and family values upon which all their business interests are founded. Although property-related activities and investments remain at the core of the business, their highly relationship-minded and solution-driven approach led to the Group’s decision to extend its interests through strategic acquisitions into financial services, technology and hotels.
